Yesterday on 4 January 2017 the state government of Tamilnadu launches Free Dhoti & Saree Scheme for the people of the Below Poverty Line (BPL). The chief miister O Paneerselvam launched this scheme yesterday in the state.
The chief minister O Paneerselvam also distributed first set of free dhotis and sarees to seven families at secretariat under Free Dhoti & Saree Scheme. This scheme was formally launched by late AIADMK founder MG Ramchandran in 1983, benefitted the downtrodden besides giving the jobs to those engaged in textile and handloom industries.
The state government of Tamilnadu said that RS. 486.36 has been allocated of the implementation of free dhoti & saree scheme. The state government will distribute 3.24 crore sarees and dhotis to the poor people of the state under free dhoti & saree scheme.
For the rural population, weaving is the largest occupation after agriculture the free dhoti and saree scheme is being implemented.. With a view towards benefitting the poor and with the objective of providing higher employment opportunities in the handloom, powerloom sector and to bring about renaissance, the scheme of distribution of supplying Priceless Sarees and Dhoties is introduced.
The state government of Tamilnadu has launched this scheme for the welfare of the poor people of the urban and rural areas. So the state government will distribute the sarees and the dhotis under free dhoti & saree scheme in the state.
